Born July, 1839.º Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1856, to May 6, 1861, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 1st Dragoons, May 6, 1861. First Lieut., 1st Cavalry, Sep. 7, 1861. Served at the Cavalry School for Practice, Carlisle, Pa., 1861. Dismissed, Dec. 29, 1861, as a "Deserter." Civil History. — Gold Mining in Cariboo District, British Columbia, 1862 to 18–––. Ranchero, near Astoria, Or., since 18–––. Vol. IV Civil History. — Farmer and stock raiser, Astoria, Ore. — Miner in "Cariboo," B. C., from 1861 to 1869. — Salmon packing at Astoria, Ore., and also at "canoe pass," Fraser River, B. C., from 1875 to 1885. — President and general manager of the Oregon and Washington Salmon Hatching Co., from 1877 to 1879. — Adjutant-General of Oregon from 1875 to 1879, and organized the Oregon State Militia. — Living at Sunnymead, Clatsop County, Ore., since 1885. Vol. V Civil History. — Unknown, no information having been received. Vol. VI Military History. — First Lieut., 1st Cavalry, Sep. 7, 1861. Dismissed, Dec. 29, 1861. Civil History. — Miner in Cariboo, B. C., from 1861 to 1869; engaged in salmon packing at Astoria, Oregon, and at Canoe Pass, Fraser River, from 1875 to 1885; was President and General Manager of the Oregon and Washington Salmon Hatching Company, 1877 to 1879; organized the Oregon State Militia and was Adjutant-General of Oregon from 1875 to 1879; farmer and live stock breeder in Clatsop County, Oregon, from 1885 to 1915. Died, Nov. 20, 1915, at Astoria, Oregon: Aged 76. Obituary notice in Annual Report, Association of Graduates, for 1918. |
