Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1856, to May 6, 1861, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 3d Artillery, May 6, 1861. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑66: in drilling Volunteers at Washington, D. C., May‑June, 1861; in Operations (First Lieut., 5th Artillery, May 14, 1861) on the Upper Potomac and in Shenandoah Valley, June to Aug., 1861; on Recruiting service, Aug. 17 to Oct. 7, 1861; with Battery in Kentucky, Oct., 1862, to Feb., 1863; in the Tennessee and Mississippi Campaign (Army of the Ohio), Feb. to June, 1862, being engaged in the March to Bowling Green, Nashville, and Pittsburg Landing, Feb. to Apr., 1862, — Battle of Shiloh, Apr. 7, 1862, — and Advance upon and Siege of Corinth, Apr. 10 to May 30, 1862; on leave of absence, June 11 to Aug. 13, 1862; with Battery (Army of the Ohio) in the Movement through North Alabama and Tennessee to Louisville, Ky., Aug. 13 to Sep. 27, 1862; as Acting Asst. Ordnance Officer at Louisville, Ky., Oct. 18, 1862, to Apr. 27, 1863; in command of Louisville Ordnance (Transferred to Ordnance Corps, Apr. 27, 1863) Depot, Apr. 27, 1863, to Jan. 24, 1864; and as Asst. Ordnance Officer at Watervliet Arsenal, N. Y., Jan. 26, 1864, to Nov. 6, 1865. Bvt. Captain, Mar. 13, 1865, for Faithful and Meritorious Services in the Ordnance Department. Served: in command of Detroit Arsenal, Mich., Nov. 7, 1865, to June 6, p799 (Captain, Ordnance, Mar. 7, 1867) 1867; and as Assistant Ordnance Officer at Allegheny Arsenal, Pa., to Feb. 10, 1869 (on leave of absence, Nov. 13, 1868, to Feb. 10, 1869). Resigned, Feb. 10, 1869. Civil History. — Unknown, nothing authentic having been received. Died, May 6, 1885, at Clyndon, Min.: Aged 47. |
