Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1857, to June 24, 1861, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to

Second Lieut., 2d Dragoons, June 24, 1861.

Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861 in drilling and organizing Volunteers at Washington, D. C., June 25 to July 16, 1861.

Dismissed, July 16, 1861, "Having Tendered his Resignation in the Face of the Enemy."

Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States.​a

Civil History. — Unknown, 1866‑70, nothing authentic having been received. Colonel of Artillery in the Egyptian Army, Apr. 21, 1870, to July 19, 1875.

Died, July 19, 1875, at Ilion, N. Y.: Aged 34.

Buried, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.


Thayer's Note:

a As with other Confederate officers, Cullum's Register omits his war record: according to the Southern Historical Society Papers (confirmed by his modern grave marker) he was Lieut.‑Colonel in the 39th North Carolina Infantry, McNair's Brigade, Army of Tennessee.
