Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1859, to June 11, 1863, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 1st Artillery, June 11, 1863. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1863‑66: as Acting Ordnance Officer at Morris Island, S. C., during Operations against Charleston, July‑Aug., 1863; in garrison at Beaufort, S. C., Aug. 14 to (First Lieut., Ordnance, Nov. 6, 1863) p9 Nov. 30, 1863; and as Asst. Ordnance Officer at Washington Arsenal, D. C., Dec. 11, 1863, to Feb. 28, 1864, — Watertown Arsenal, Mas., Mar. 8 to Dec. 24, 1864, — at Frankford Arsenal, Pa., Jan. 2, 1865, to Sep. 30, (Bvt. Captain, Mar. 13, 1865, for Meritorious Services in the Ordnance Department during the Rebellion) 1868, — and at Allegheny Arsenal, Pa., Sep. 30, 1868, to Dec. 2, 1870; in command of Charleston Arsenal, S. C., Dec. 2, 1870, to Oct. 23, 1873 (leave of absence, June 7 to Sep. 7, 1873); as Asst. Ordnance Officer at Springfield Armory, Mas., Oct. 30, 1873, to Sep. 28, 1875 (sick leave of (Captain, Ordnance, June 23, 1874) absence, Dec. 19, 1874, to Jan. 19, 1875), — at Watervliet Arsenal, N. Y., Oct. 14, 1875, to Oct. 25, 1876 (sick leave of absence, Nov. 1, 1875, to Oct. 31, 1876), and at Indianapolis Arsenal, Ind., Nov. 8, 1876, to June 11, 1878; and on sick leave of absence, June 11 to July 5, 1878. Died, July 5, 1878, at Washington, D. C.: Aged 36. |
