Served: with Engineer Battalion at Willet's Point, N. Y., Oct. 5, 1865, to Nov. 8, 1867; as Assistant Engineer of the Improvement of Des (Captain, Corps of Engineers, June 3, 1867) Moines Rapids of Mississippi River, Nov. 26, 1867, to July 26, 1869; as Chief Engineer on the Staff of the Commander of the Fifth Military District and Department of Texas, Sep. 6, 1869, to June 20, 1871 (leave of absence, Mar. 20 to June 17, 1871); as Assistant Engineer of the Improvement of the Tennessee River, July 1, 1871, to Oct. 9, 1873 (leave of absence, May 1 to Aug. 31, 1872), — and of Improvement of the Cumberland River, Oct. 10, 1873 (leave of absence, Oct. 24 to Nov. 25, 1877), to Oct. 20, 1882; in charge of River and Harbor Improvements in Ohio and Water-level Observations on Lake Erie, since Oct. 22, 1882, — and (Major, Corps of Engineers, Mar. 26, 1883) Dunkirk Harbor, N. Y., Mar. 10, 1885, to Sep. 25, 1886; as Engineer of Tenth Light-house District, since Apr. 11, 1888; in charge of removal of wreck, Fairport Harbor, O., Sep. 2 to Dec., 1885, and at Ashtabula Harbor, since June 22, 1888, — and of various surveys in Ohio, Oct. 24, 1882, to Jan. 17, 1889; and as Member of various Engineer Boards on River and Harbor Improvements, 1879‑90. Vol. IV (Lewis Cooper Overman) Military History. — Served: In charge of various surveys in Ohio, at Cleveland, O., from Oct. 24, 1882 to Jan. 17, 1889. — Member of various Boards on river and harbor improvements to Nov. 11, 1891. — Awaiting orders and tried by General Court-Martial, and sentenced to be reprimanded to March 24, 1892, and awaiting orders, and on leave until he (Resigned, Sept. 20, 1892) Died May 8, 1899, at Nantucket, Mas.: Aged 56.
