Born July 20, 1844, Youngstown, OH.a Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, Sep. 1, 1861, to June 23, 1865, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 4th Cavalry, June 23, 1865. Served: in garrison at New Orleans, La., Oct.‑Nov., 1865; on frontier p45 duty at San Antonio, Tex., Nov., 1865, to July, 1866, — and in conducting (First Lieut., 4th Cavalry, Apr. 21, 1866) prisoners to New Orleans, La., July 21‑27, 1866; on sick leave of absence, July 27, 1866, to Mar. 26, 1867; on frontier duty at Camp Verde, Tex., Apr. 24, 1867, to June 24, 1868 (leave of absence to Nov. 25, 1869), — Austin, Tex., to Aug., 1870, — Ringgold Barracks, Tex., May, 1871, — (Captain, 4th Cavalry, June 10, 1870) Ft. Richardson, Tex., to Aug., 1871, — Indian Expedition, to Oct. 6, 1871, — and Ft. Richardson, Tex., to Jan. 25, 1872; and on leave of absence, to Apr. 21, 1872.
