Died, Dec. 1, 1865, at Augusta, Ga.: Aged 22.

Buried, Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover, NH.


Thayer's Note:

a Lt. Garland's full name is from a guide to 19c manuscripts held in Special Collections, United States Military Academy Library, #149, p5:

Papers regarding appointment to West Point; promotions and assignments following graduation. Cadet journal; includes poetry, notes on history, philosophy and astronomy.

In that catalogue, he is stated to have been born in 1843; but his tombstone (q.v.) records him as having been Aged 21 yr's, 10 mo's. at death, putting his birthdate between Jan. 2 and Feb. 1, 1844.
