Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1862, to June 18, 1866, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to

Second Lieut., Corps of Engineers, June 18, 1866.

Served: with the Engineer Company at Willet's Point, N. Y., and at San Francisco Harbor, Cal., Dec. 3, 1866, to Dec. 20, 1869; as Assistant

(First Lieut., Corps of Engineers, Mar. 7, 1867)

Engineer on the Geodetic Survey of the Northern Lakes, May, 1870, to June 7, 1872 (leave of absence, Feb. 12 to Mar. 14, and absent sick, to May 13, 1872), — and on Boundary Survey along the 49th Parallel, June 7 to July 22, 1872; as Recorder of Board of Engineers for Pacific Coast, Aug. 30, 1872, to May 8, 1873; and as Assistant Engineer under the orders of Lieut.‑Colonel Indicates a West Point graduate, Class of 1846: a link to his biographical entry in Cullum's Register.Stewart at San Diego, Cal., May 8, 1873, to May 23, 1874, and at San Francisco, Cal., to Jan. 29, 1877, — and under the orders of the Pacific Board of Engineers, May 23, 1874, to Jan. 29, 1877.
