Joseph Gardner Swift​a

Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, Sep. 1, 1862, to June 18, 1866, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to

Second Lieut., 5th Artillery, June 18, 1866.

Served: in garrison at Richmond, Va., Sep. 30, 1866, to Aug. 22, 1868 (leave of absence, Aug. 22 to Nov. 26, 1868), — Ft. Macon, N. C., to Feb., 1869, — Ft. Adams, R. I., to Feb., 1870, — and Ft. Trumbull, Ct., to Feb. 25, 1871; and on leave of absence, to Mar. 2, 1871.

Died, Mar. 2, 1871, at New York city: Aged 28.
