William Bascom McCallum: Born May 1, 1845, Rochester, NY.a Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, Oct. 19, 1863, to June 17, 1867, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 5th Artillery, June 17, 1867. Served: on frontier duty at Little Rock, Ark., Oct. 4, 1867, to Mar., 1869; in garrison at Plattsburg Barracks, N. Y., Apr. 14, 1869, to Apr. 22, 1871, — and Ft. Preble, Me., Apr. 28, 1871, to Dec., 1872; as (First Lieut., 5th Artillery, Jan. 1, 1871) Professor of Military Science and Tactics in the Western University of Pennsylvania, to Mar., 1876; in garrison at Ft. Barrancas, Fla., Mar. 31, 1874, to July 27, 1877, — and Newport Barracks, Ky., July 27 to Aug. 2, 1877; suppressing Railroad Disturbances in Pennsylvania, to Oct. 26, p105 1877; and in garrison at Ft. Barrancas, Fla., Oct., 1877, to Nov. 18, 1878, — and Charleston Barracks, S. C., Nov. 28, 1878, to Apr. 17, 1879, — Atlanta, Ga., to Oct. 9, 1881, — Ft. Niagara, N. Y., to Apr. 30, 1882, — Ft.
