Born North Easton, MA.a Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1864, to June 15, 1868, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 2d Artillery, June 15, 1868. Served: on frontier duty at Ft. Vancouver, Wash., Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, 1868, — and Cape Disappointment, Wash., Nov. 18, 1868, to Oct., 1870; in garrison at Point San José, Cal., Oct. 20, 1870, to Jan., 1872, — Alcatraz Island, Cal., Jan. 9 to May 1, 1872 (leave of absence, to Nov., 1872), — Ft. Macon, N. C., Nov. 1, 1872, to Apr. 9, 1873, — Ft. Monroe, Va. (Artillery School for Practice), May 1, 1873, to May 1, 1874, — Ft. Macon, N. C., June 7‑27, 1874, — and Ft. Monroe, Va. (Adjutant of Artillery School for Practice), June 29, 1874, to Mar. 23, 1877; as Adjutant, (First Lieut., 2d Artillery, Apr. 26, 1875) 2d Artillery, at regimental headquarters, Ft. McHenry, Md., Mar. 24, 1877, to Jan. 27, 1881; and on leave of absence, Jan. 30, 1881, to Jan. 29, 1882. Resigned, Jan. 29, 1882. Civil History. — Unknown, nothing authentic having been received. Vol. IV Civil History. — Merchant (dry‑goods), Buffalo, N. Y. Vol. V Civil History. — Merchant (dry goods), Buffalo, N. Y. Vol. VI (Clarence Orville Howard, Born Feb. 9, 1846.) Military History. — First Lieut., 2d Artillery, April 26, 1875. Resigned, Jan. 29, 1882. Civil History. — Dry goods merchant in Buffalo, N. Y., until the spring of 1910, when he moved to Barnstable, Mass., where he has since resided. Died, Oct. 14,b 1920, at Barnstable, Mass.: Aged 74.
