Samuel Richard Douglas: Born Aug. 1851. Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, Sep. 1, 1872, to June 14, 1876, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 7th Infantry, June 15,º 1876. Served: on frontier duty at Ft. Shaw, Mon., Sep. 30, 1876, to Mar. 2, 1877, — Ft. Ellis, Mon., Mar. 12‑24, 1877, — Nez Percés Expedition, as Quartermaster of the Cavalry Battalion, to Sep. 25, 1877, — Ft. Ellis, Mon., Sep. 25, 1877, to June 7, 1879, — and Ft. Benton and Camp Lodor, Mon., to Aug. 31, 1879; before Ordnance Examination Board, to Oct., 1879; in garrison at Ft. Snelling, Min., to May 3, 1880; on leave of absence, to Aug. 28, 1880; on frontier duty at Ft. Stevenson, Dak., to June 8, 1882; and on leave of absence, to June 3, 1883. Resigned, June 3, 1883. Civil History. — Stock Farmer, etc., in Montana, 1883‑88. Member of the Montana Constitutional Convention, 1884. City Treasurer of Helena, Mon., 1889‑90. Asst. Inspector General of Montana, 1888‑89; and Adjutant-General, 1889‑90.
