Born Salisbury, NC.a Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1873, to June 14, 1877, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 8th Infantry, June 15, 1877. p277 Served: on leave of absence and awaiting orders, June 15 to Dec. 31, 1877; on frontier duty at Camp Thomas, Ara., Jan. 1 to July 18, 1878, — in the field, to Sep. 3, 1878, — and at Camp Bidwell, Cal., Sep. 3, 1878, to Aug. 27, 1879. Resigned, Aug. 27, 1879. Civil History. — Unknown, nothing authentic having been received. Vol. IV Civil History. — Unknown. Vol. V Civil History. — Unknown. Vol. VI (Born Dec. 1, 1856.) Military History. — Second Lieut., 8th Infantry, June 15, 1877. Resigned, Aug. 27, 1879. Major, 4th U. S. Volunteers, May –––––, 1898. Served in Spanish-American War in the United States and in Santiago Province, Cuba, Headquarters at Manzanillo, Cuba, in command of Mounted Battalion of Regiment; mustered out at Camp Meade, Pa. Mustered Out of Service, June –––––, 1899. Civil History. — Entered service of Southern Railway as Ticket Agent at Salisbury, N. C., May, 1880; promoted to Freight and Passenger Agent at Salisbury, July 1, 1884; promoted to General Agent at Danville, Va., March 1, 1890; granted leave of absence during Spanish-American War; resumed duty at Danville, Va., July 1, 1899; promoted to Superintendent, Danville and Western Railway, Sept. 10, 1903; still serving in that capacity (December, 1918). Residence: Danville, Va. Vol. VII Military History: — Second Lieutenant, 8th Infantry, June 15, 1877. Resigned, Aug. 27, 1879. Died, May 27, 1927, at Danville, Va.: Aged 70.
