Robert Eliel Safford: Born July 3, 1854, Chillicothe, OH.a Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1873, to June 14, 1877, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 10th Cavalry, June 15, 1877. Served: on leave of absence and awaiting orders, June 15 to Dec. 14, 1877; and on frontier duty at Ft. Clark, Tex., Dec. 14, 1877, to Jan. 31, 1878, — Ft. McKavett, Tex., Feb. 6 to Aug. 4, 1878, — Ft. Davis, Tex., Aug. 19‑22, 1878, — Scouting, Aug. 22 to Dec. 1, 1878, — Ft. Davis, Tex., Dec. 1, 1878, to Apr. 7, 1879, — and Scouting, to July 19, 1879. Died, July 19, 1879, in the Guadalupe Mountains, Tex.: Aged 25. Obituary notice in Annual Report, Association of Graduates, for 1880.º Buried, Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe, OH. |
