Thayer's Note:

a1 a2 The unanimous consensus of other online sources, representing at least two printed works — even if, as not uncommonly, they reduce to a single common source — has him born in Lewistown, PA and moving to Ohio when very young. Cullum or his own sources may have been a bit loose in the matter of birthplaces; see for example Indicates a West Point graduate and gives his Class. Godfrey Weitzel.
