Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1875, to June 13, 1879, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 1st Cavalry, June 13, 1879. Served: on frontier duty at Ft. Lapwai, Ida., Oct. 4, 1879, and in the field, to Mar. 17, 1881, — Camp Howard, Ida., to July 11, 1881, — and conducting prisoners to San Francisco, Cal., to Aug. 1, 1881; en route to and under instruction at the French Cavalry School, at Saumur, France, and attending the manoeuvres of the French Army, to Sept., 1882; on frontier duty at Ft. Walla Walla, Wash., Sep. 14, 1882, to Apr. 19, 1883, — Ft. Spokane, Wash., and in the field, to May 28, 1883, — on detached service in command of Exploring Expedition to Lake Chelan, Wash., and vicinity, to Aug. 2, 1883, — Vancouver Barracks, Wash., to Nov. 6, 1883, — Ft. Klamath, Or., to June 4, 1884, — Ft. Maginnis, Mon., and in the field (on Rifle Competition at Headquarters Department of Dakota, July 28 to Sep. 18, 1885), to Aug. 25, 1886, — and Ft. Assinniboine, Mon. (on detached service exploring the Rocky Mountains, Sep. 27 to Nov. 10, 1886, and almost constantly in the field after Indian raiders, during 1887), to Mar., 1888; as Instructor in Equitation at the Infantry and Cavalry p320 School, Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., Mar. 14 to Nov. 20, 1888; on leave of absence, to July 19, 1889, and sick leave, to Sep. 26, 1889; and on frontier duty at Ft. Custer, Mon., to –––––. Vol. IV (Samuel Churchill Robertson) Military History. — Organized and trained a troop of Crow Indian Scouts, Sept., 1891. — Served at Fort Custer, Mont. — In the field during Sioux troubles at Pine Ridge Agency, 1890‑91.a Resigned, June 30, 1893. Civil History. — Author of many papers on professional subjects, 1883‑93. Died Aug. 31, 1893, at Fort Worth, Tex.: Aged 36. See Annual Association of Graduates, U. S. M.
