Thayer's Note:

a1 a2 Cadet Schroeder's birthplace is from his AOG obituary, which gives his birthdate, however, as July 31, 1857. The Official Register of Officers and Cadets of the U. S. Military Academy, 1875, lists him (p17) as being 17 years and 2 months old on July 1, 1874, which is consistent with the date as given by the Register and not with that in the AOG obituary.
