Born Feb. 18, 1859, Americus, GA.a Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1877, to June 11, 1881, when he was graduated, and, having declined promotion in the Army, was Honorably Discharged, June 11, 1881. Civil History. — Commandant of Cadets at Military School at Kirkwood, Ga., 1881‑83. Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Drawing, South Carolina Military Academy, 1883‑86. Commandant of Cadets and Professor of Mathematics at Edgewood Military Academy, 1886‑88. Professor of Mathematics at Georgia State School of Technology at Atlanta, Ga., since 1888. Vol. IV Civil History. — President of Georgia School of Technology, Atlanta, July, 1897 to –––––; Professor of Mathematics in Georgia School of Technology, 1888 to 1897. — Author of Hall's Elements of Algebra and key to same. Vol. V Civil History. — President of Georgia School of Technology, Atlanta, Ga., July, 1897 to 1905; Washington‑Lee University, Lexington, Va., conferred on him degree of L. L. D. in 1903. Dr. Hall took an active interest in volunteer service of Georgia, and was Captain of the Gate City Guard of Atlanta for several years. He was later Captain of the Grady Cadets of Atlanta. He volunteered for service in the Spanish-American war, but was not accepted, Governor Atkinson, of Georgia, thinking Dr. Hall was more needed in a civil than in a military capacity. Died Aug. 16, 1905, at Atlanta, Ga.: Aged 46 Obituary notice in Annual Report, Association of Graduates, for 1906.º Buried, Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, GA. |
