(Sheldon Harley Wheeler, Born April 6, 1889, Burlington, VT.)a Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, March 1, 1910, to June 12, 1914, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Additional Second Lieut., 25th Infantry. Second Lieut., 25th Infantry, July 23, 1914. Served: At Schofield Bks., Hawaii, with regiment, October, 1914, to October, 1915; at San Diego, Cal., student officer at Aviation School, November, 1915, to (First Lieut. of Infantry, July 1, 1916) August, 1916; at Columbus, N. M., and with Punitive Expedition into Mexico to (Aviation Section, Signal Corps, by Detail, Sept. 3, 1916) p1722 April, 1917; rated as Junior Military Aviator, Sept. 3, 1916; (Transferred to Cavalry, Jan. 13, 1917) at San Antonio, Texas, April to (Captain of Cavalry, June 18, 1917) (Major, Junior Military Aviator, Signal Corps, June 18, 1917) July, 1917; at Selfridge Field, Mt. Clemens, Mich., to August, 1917; at Scott Field, Belleville, Ill., August to December, 1917; at Love Field, Dallas, Texas, December, 1917, to March, 1918; at Carlstrom and Dorr Fields, Arcadia, Fla., to (Major of Cavalry, U. S. A., July 30, 1918) August, 1918; sailed for France, Sept. 9, 1918; at American Aviation Acceptance Park, with A. E. F., Oct. 1, 1918, to April 17, 1919; at Mitchel Field, Long Island, N. Y., Assistant Executive Officer and Demobilization Officer, April 26 to Sept. 7; at Luke Field, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, commanding officer, Oct. 26, 1919, to ––––– (Returned to Grade of Captain, Feb. 27, 1920) Vol. VII Military History: — Captain of Cavalry, June 18, 1917. Major of Cavalry, U. S. A., July 30, 1918. At Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, commanding Luke Field and 5th Group, Air Service, Oct. 26, 1919, to Returned to Grade of Captain, Feb. 27, 1920. (Transferred to Air Service, July 1, 1920.) Major, Air Service, July 1, 1920. July 13, 1921, when as result of injuries received in an air‑plane accident, he Died, July 13, 1921, at Luke Field, Hawaii: Aged 32.
