Second Lieut., 4th Artillery, July 1, 1837.

Served in the Florida War against the Seminole Indians, 1837‑38; in the Cherokee Nation, 1838, while transferring the Indians to the West; on Northern Frontier, at

Resigned, Dec. 31, 1838.

Civil History. — Counselor at Law, Duval County, Fla., 1839‑40. Major, Florida Militia, 1839‑40.

Died, Nov. 19, 1840, at Jacksonville, Fla.: Aged 39.

Buried, Old Jacksonville City Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL.


Thayer's Note:

a A book of Marriage and Death Records 1816‑49, copied from Susquehanna newspapers, has

Gregory, Asa P., Jr.,º son of Samuel Gregory of Susqa. Co., ae. [i.e.aetatis] 27. He was graduated at West Point, N. Y., and late Lieut. 3rdº Artillery of U. S. Army, Jacksonville, Fla. Nov. 19.

which would put his birthdate in 1813 or 1812, but notice the two probable errors otherwise. A bare Find-a‑Grave page states without evidence that he was born in 1811.
