Thayer's Notes:

a Col. Raff is best known for his war record as a parachutist in the Tunisian campaign of 1942‑1943. He wrote a book on the campaign there as fought by his unit, the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment: We Jumped to Fight (Eagle Books, New York, 1944, 207pp.).

b Col. Raff died after the publication of Vol. IX (1950), the most recent volume of the Supplements to Cullum's Register available to me, which may also be the most recent volume in the public domain. The date of his death is from his tombstone, and the place from an article attached to it at Find-a‑Grave (q.v.).
