William C. Paine: Taught at the Academy for a year, then served as an engineer in the Union Army in the War between the States, but resigned during the war after a disability; a Massachusetts farmer.

Moses J. White: Ordnance officer, fought for the Confederacy in the War between the States; died during the war, six years after graduating.

Joseph Dixon: Topographical Engineer, fought Indians in Oregon, and was killed fighting for the Confederacy within four years of graduating.

William H. Echols: Engineer, resigned within three years to serve the Confederacy; his postwar career was as a manufacturing and banking executive.

John S. Saunders: Ordnance officer, resigned within three years, to fight for his home State and the Confederacy.

James H. Hallonquist: As a Confederate officer, he was an artillerist in the Bombardment of Ft. Sumter and at Shiloh.

Thomas R. Tannatt: Never in good health, he fought for the Union and was disabled by a wound, which combined with illness to force his resignation after six years; his later career was that of a mining, railroad, and land entrepreneur mostly in the Pacific Northwest.

Marcus P. Miller: Artilleryman; fought for the Union in the War between the States, fought Indians on the western frontier, taught at the Military Academy, and fought in the Philippines in the Spanish-American War.

Charles H. Ingraham: Served in the Utah Expedition and in New Mexico, and fought for the Union in the War between the States; died nine years after graduating.

Leroy Napier: Resigned within two years of graduating; fought for the Confederacy in the War between the States, and died soon after the war, nine years after graduating.

Solomon Williams: Fought Indians in the Midwest, and was killed fighting for the Confederacy in the War between the States, five years after graduating.

Richard H. Brewer: Cavalry­man; fought Indians in the Far West, and died of wounds received fighting for the Confederacy in the War between the States, six years after graduating.

Samuel McKee: Cavalry­man; served in California, and died of wounds received fighting for the Union in the War between the States, six years after graduating.

James J. Van Horn: Infantry­man; in his forty-year career he fought for the Union in the War between the States, and after the war commanded various posts, mostly in the West.

Andrew Jackson: Fought Indians in the Midwest, and fought for the Confederacy in the War between the States; after the war he farmed the Hermitage near Nashville and worked for the IRS.

Charles G. Harker: Infantry­man; served in the Pacific Northwest, and was killed fighting for the Union in the War between the States, six years after greeting.

Sardine P. Reed: Died of illness at West Point a few months after graduating.

Royal T. Frank: Infantry­man, fought Indians on the western frontier, then fought for the Union in the War between the States; after the war, an artilleryman, serving ten years as commander of the Artillery School.

Edward P. Cressey: Cavalry­man, fought Indians on the western frontier although his career was mostly in recruiting, including for the Union Army during the War between the States; after the war, taught English at the Imperial College of Japan and worked for a steamship company.

Asa B. Carey: Forty years in the Army; the first twelve in New Mexico, then in the Paymaster Corps, ending his career as Paymaster General.

William H. Bell: Served in New Mexico then fought for the Union in the War between the States; at the end of his nearly forty-year career, he was Commissary-General of Subsistence.

Bryan M. Thomas: Served on the western frontier, then fought for the Confederacy in the War between the States; after the war, a planter and educator. [+ AOG]

William J. L. Nicodemus: Served on the western frontier, then fought for the Union in the War between the States; not long after the war, a civilian professor of engineering and military science.

Oliver P. Gooding: Served on the western frontier, then fought for the Union in the War between the States, resigning at the end of the war; a civilian attorney and police official. [+ AOG]

William G. Robinson: Served on the Midwestern frontier, then fought for the Confederacy in the War between the States; after the war, a civil engineer.

George N. Bascom: Served in Utah and New Mexico, then fought for the Union in the War between the States, and was killed within four years of graduating.

Charles E. Jesup: Resigned two years after graduating, and died a few months later.
