John R. Meigs: Killed in battle a year after graduating, fighting for the Union in the War between the States.

Peter S. Michie: Engineer; fought for the Union in the War between the States; taught at the Military Academy for over thirty years where he became one of its most formative influences.

James D. Rabb: Served in the Union Army during the War between the States; died two months after graduating.

William J. Twining: Engineer, fought for the Union in the War between the States; after the war, worked in the interface between high-level surveying and politics.

William R. King: Ordnance officer and engineer, invented and designed a counterpoise gun-carriage, and worked on river and harbor improvements thruout the country. [+ AOG]

William H. H. Benyaurd: Thirty-seven years as an Army Engineer; after fighting for the Union in the War between the States (Medal of Honor), he specialized mostly in bridges, rivers and harbors.

Charles W. Howell: Engineer, fought for the Union in the War between the States mostly building and dismantling bridges in Virginia; after the war, worked on river and harbor improvements in and near the Gulf of Mexico.

Asa H. Holgate: Engineer, served with the Union Army during the War between the States; ended his career ten years after the war with a pair of arrests and was allowed to resign; died three years later.

John R. McGinness: Forty years as an Ordnance officer, fighting for the Union in the War between the States and serving in the Philippines in the Spanish-American War.

George W. McKee: Thirty-seven years as an Ordnance officer; fought for the Union in the War between the States, commanded various arsenals; taught one year at the Military Academy.

Frank H. Phipps: Nearly forty-five years as an ordnance officer; served in the Union Army during the War between the States.

James W. Reilly: Forty years as an ordnance officer; fought for the Union in the War between the States.

Josiah H. V. Field: Ordnance Officer, served in the Union Army during the War between the States; died a year after graduating.

Charles F. Rockwell: Ordnance Officer, served in the Union Army during the War between the States; died five years after graduating.

William S. Beebe: Ordnance officer, fought for the Union in the War between the States (Medal of Honor); retired to 25 years of civilian life, then served in the Spanish-American War, in Cuba, where he died of yellow fever.

Thomas Ward: Artilleryman, fought for the Union in the War between the States; most of the rest of his 40‑year Army career in the Adjutant General's department.

Jacob H. Counselman: Artilleryman, fought for the Union in the War between the States; left the Army nine years after graduating and died shortly afterwards.

George D. Ramsay, Jr.: Artilleryman, fought for the Union in the War between the States; died fairly young.

Henry C. Dodge: Artilleryman, fought for the Union in the War between the States; lost at sea nine years after graduating.

John G. Butler: Forty years in Ordnance; fought for the Union in the War between the States.

Robert Catlin: Fought for the Union in War between the States; the loss of a leg in battle pretty much put an end to his military career.

Charles H. Lester: Cavalry­man, fought for the Union in the War between the States, then served eighteen years on the western frontier, mostly in Texas.

Kenelm Robbins: Cavalry­man, fought for the Union in the War between the States; died in arrest seven years after graduating.

James M. J. Sanno: Infantry­man, served in the Union Army during the War between the States, fought Indians on the western frontier and fought insurgents in the Philippines.

James R. Reid: Fought for the Union in the War between the States; resigned shortly after the war, and in civilian life worked in the foundry business and as an industrial manufacturer.
