Hadrian's Tomb at the head of the
Pons Aelius;
or if you prefer, the Castel Sant' Angelo at the head of the Ponte S. Angelo. |
On July 10, 138 A.D. the emperor Hadrian died, probably of tuberculosis, at the imperial villa at Baiae near Naples.
The serious student interested in the details of the construction of Hadrian's Mausoleum, imperial burials here, and the medieval history of the monument should also see the entry in Platner & Ashby's Topographical Dictionary of Ancient Rome.
