Scene 49

Scenes of the spiral band running up the shaft

 p141  XLVIII. Defeat and flight of the enemy

The enemy is seen broken and defeated at the edge of this rocky defile. Two resolute men make head against  p142 the cavalry. The corner of this composition is filled with dead and wounded men.

The Dacians retreat into the forest. A dragon ensign is carried away by the band.
