The plaque on the building reads:

DEMOLITIONE · PROVIDENTISSIMA
AB · INVISA · DEFORMITATE · VINDICAVIT
ET · IN · LIBERVM · LOCI · PROSPECTVM · PATERE · IVSSIT

Which being translated:

Pius VII Supreme Pontiff, in the Year of His Pontificate the 23rd, •
the area before the Pantheon of Marcus Agrippa
being occupied by undistinguished eateries,
freed it of a detestable deformity
by undertaking a very thoughtful program of demolition
and ordered that it remain clear, to provide an unobstructed view of the site.
