Simple Subjects, Sophisticated Treatment:
The Bruno Bartoccini Collection at S. Maria Assunta di Pistrino

[image ALT: The interior of the church of S. Maria Assunta in Pistrino (comune of Citerna, northern Umbria): about 20 small bronze sculptures on stands; behind them, fragmentary frescoes mostly of the Renaissance period.]

Against a backdrop of late medieval and Renaissance votive frescoes
a collection of 20c bronzes by Bruno Bartoccini (1910‑2001), born in Pistrino.

I do not pretend to know anything at all about modern art, so for once my page will leave you to enjoy this sample of 20c sculpture on your own:

[image ALT: A small bronze sculpture of a woman half recumbent, support herself also on her hands, looking at the ground. It is a statue by Bruno Bartoccini in Pistrino, Umbria (central Italy).]

[image ALT: A bronze sculpture of a woman with a scythe, bending over, cutting grass. It is a statue by Bruno Bartoccini in Pistrino, Umbria (central Italy).]

[image ALT: A series of small bronze sculptures of ducks in various poses, lined up against a wall. They are statues by Bruno Bartoccini in Pistrino, Umbria (central Italy).]

Pistrino is one of two large collections of Bartoccini's work that I know of in Italy; the other is in the Marche at the Pinacoteca Girolamo di Giovanni and Municipal Gallery of Camerino; see their site.
