Budino is a very small place, with maybe a hundred inhabitants all told; this is her parish church. I've got nothing more for you than these three somewhat color-deteriorated photos, taken in 1998, and have not been inside: because of the then recent Umbrian earthquake (Sept. 26, 1997) the church was, as you will see, very closed: Mass was being said in the prefabricated shed of which you see a sliver in the left foreground of the photo above.
To judge from the apse, the church appears to date to the 16c or maybe the 17c; it is somewhat similar in general plan and appearance to the Santuario della Madonna at La Bruna near Spoleto.
"A façade that could be any period after the 16c; here, very likely later rather than earlier: my guess is 19c or even early 20c." So this page read for eighteen years, yours truly having not a shred of information on the church. As it turns out though, my gut was right: an earthquake in 1832 destroyed much of the church that had been standing there — of uncertain date: for the fragmentary and confusing data, see the good page at Luoghi del Silenzio — and the church was rebuilt toward the end of the 1830's. |
