[MissingALT. It is a madonnina, or wayside shrine depicting the Virgin Mary, near Montefalco, Umbria (central Italy).]

From thirty yards away, this edicola doesn't look like much of anything at all. Zoom by in a car, or for that matter walk around in the center of town just 300 meters from here with our nose in a guidebook looking at "sights" — we've all done that — and we'll never see this beautiful Virgin and Child, good, elegant work of the fifteenth century.
