On my one visit to Cortigno, I found the church closed; but thru the wonders of the Internet, three years later I got my virtual tour anyway, and can pass it on to you, if with not much commentary.
On my next stay in Umbria, I hope to get to see this handsome 16c woodwork myself. In the left niche the patron saint of the church, St. Michael the Archangel, can be seen conquering his dragon; in the right, weighing the soul of a Christian at the moment of death. The symmetrical iconography is unusual and attractive: he conquers evil and is the arbiter of good. |

The baptismal font: early medieval (11c?); very possibly inspired by the much more refined font in the church of S. Maria in Ponte, just 5 km W of here. |
