San Donato, pretty much as I came upon it walking the hill N from Trevi to Foligno. |
The typical early Romanesque apse, oriented slightly N of due east.
We're looking NW toward the Colli Martani. |
Looking S beyond the vineyard toward Trevi, you can just make out the church of
S. Martino.
|
Notice the Roman stones in the lower courses of the wall; for a clearer view of more Roman stones, real, and a bit about Roman roads, conjectured, see the N side of the church.
The smaller rocks all around the church, on the other hand, are what passes for soil around Trevi. Do not be too quick to pity the area's farmers, however: it is primarily to these fist-sized chunks of limestone so liberally strewn about the landscape that Trevi owes its reputation as a source of some of the best olive oil in Italy.
Images with borders lead to more information.
