This fresco was probably never that good, but it's still a shame. St. Francis's face has been carefully cut out.

The saint is still recognizable from his robe and his bare feet bearing the stigmata. (The one robe St. Francis owned, by the way, has come down to us: lovingly preserved in the Basilica at Assisi, it is a moving sight.)
