Configni
A Frazione of Acquasparta

A town of S central Umbria, a frazione of Acquasparta: 42°41.9N, 12°31.9E. Altitude: 380 m. Population in 2003: 89.

[image ALT: A small castle consisting of a windowless 2‑story section on the right (a cubical part and a small square tower, both with pitched roofs), and a much larger tower, also with a pitched roof but with machicolations and one small window. It is the castello of Configni, near Acquasparta, Umbria (central Italy).]

Configni is a very small village, not much more than three bits of street and some medieval walls; the castle you see above, some 500 meters N, is not much smaller.

Here we've gone past the castle and are almost in the village. What was a defensive outpost is now a prosperous farm.

The church of S. Maria Assunta. The interior, at least, is 20c.

A bit more informal local information can be gleaned from the Oct. 16, 1994 entry of my diary, with a third photo of the castle, my best. Film was expensive back then, but now with digital cameras is essentially free: I hope to go back and photograph what I missed.
