A Sundial in Cesi

[image ALT: A painted surface with a blazing sun in the center and above it, scrollwork with roses. From the center of the sun a stylus pokes out at an angle. It is a sundial in Cesi, Umbria (central Italy).]

In the main square of Cesi (Umbria).

The gnomon casts no shadow on its elaborate analemma: it was a very cloudy day. On the other hand the motto,

Hora fugit: ne tardes!
The hour is passing fast: don't be late!

is very good advice. To my regret, I didn't heed it — ambling thru the streets of Cesi photographing everything in sight — and as a result was suddenly caught in a torrential downpour of unexpectedly cold rain: for a week after, maybe the worst flu I ever had.
