Photographs on this Site: Master Index

What's this about?

My website features many photographs, mostly of architectural monuments and works of art in Europe. The pictures appearing on the site, however, are — and will remain — only a small subset of those taken by me. It seemed useful to make available to the interested community a catalog of all of them: the same catalog I had to draw up anyway in order to construct my site.

The catalog may be of use to:

Epigraphers: if you are looking for actual photographs of Roman, Etruscan, Picene and Greek inscriptions (for which, say, you may only have a text) you will find several hundred here; but you will find the exact same several hundred, with the same information and links, in this separate Index of Latin Inscriptions, more manageable because all non-epigraphic photos have been removed.

In addition to ancient inscriptions, this catalog is rich in Roman and Etruscan remains, small medieval churches, frescoes, etc. As of November 1998, it covers primarily Italy (90%) and France (7%); then England, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium in that order.

Each of the Series pages below therefore provides a chronological descriptive catalog of all the photographs I took in that Series (usually meaning: on that particular trip).

If the photograph appears somewhere on this website, it will be linked to it. If not, you may e‑mail me to request temporary placement on the Web of those items you believe may be useful to you.

The series that are not linked do exist, but are not ready to be catalogued yet.

This service is free. On the other hand, except in the most exceptional circumstances, I will not provide hard-copy prints or slides.
