Midshipmen's uniforms Left to Right: (1) Working dress B — used for all drills except infantry. (2) Infantry dress D (except that white hat is used instead of a cap) — used for aviation. (3) Service dress, blue C. (4) Infantry dress C — used for infantry drill when blue caps are prescribed for basic uniform. (5) Service dress, white. Service uniforms are worn at all times from breakfast formation until call to rooms after evening meal unless otherwise prescribed. Blue caps are usually worn from the first of December to the end of March; white caps during the remainder of the year. |

(2) Rainclothes and overshoes — worn with any basic uniform when prescribed. (3) Service dress, blue A, with reefer — reefers are worn when ordered with any prescribed service or drill uniform. (4) Service dress, blue B — The side arms and white gloves indicate that this midshipman is midshipman Officer-of‑the‑Watch. (5) Infantry dress, A — side arms are worn by midshipman company officers. White gloves are worn with overcoats, when white hats are prescribed, with full dress uniforms, and when on watch. Grey gloves are worn with overcoats, when the uniform is blue caps, and with reefers, except by members of the watch squad. |

Overcoats are worn when prescribed with any service or dress uniform. (4) Full dress, A. (5) Service dress, blue B. Dress uniforms are worn when prescribed for any special occasion, at hops and evening entertainments, from 0900 Sunday until after midday meal, and for dress parades. Horizontal stripes indicate first class, the number of stripes indicating the regimental rank. Two diagonal stripes indicate the second class, one diagonal stripe indicates the third class. No stripes are worn by the fourth class. |
