LVIII

Findere me nulli possunt, praecidere multi;
Sed diversicolor sum albus quandoque futurus;
Malo manere niger: minus ultima fata verebor.

Peck:

No one can split, though many sunder me,
I'm various colors now, but white shall be,
And black I'd stay, the less my fate to see.

Ohl:

None can split me, though many cut me. But I am of changeable hue, at some time hence I shall be white. I prefer to stay black: the less I shall fear my fate.
