Return to Hadrian's Wall

Vindolanda

A section of Hadrian's Wall and turret have been reconstructed at Vindolanda to give an impression of their massive size. Because no remains survive to their original height, there has been some conjecture about the construction and whether the height and crenellated parapet are accurate.

The civil settlement (vicus) at Vindolanda was built in the AD 80s, almost forty years before Hadrian's Wall.
