Return to Classical and Hellenistic Greece
The English architects James Stuart and Nicholas Revett visited Athens from 1751 to 1753 and published the first volume of The Antiquities of Athens in 1762. Although it did not consider the classical monuments of the Acropolis, as first proposed, but five lesser works that exemplified the Greek Orders, it still is considered the first accurate survey of classical Greek architecture.
